(firmenpresse) - Wolfgang Ahrendt has been successfully treated with the INCOR® ventricular assist device for eight years – longer than any other patient before him. Mr. Ahrendt is also one of the few patients worldwide who has been supported by a ventricular assist device for such a long period of time. INCOR® developed and manufactured in Berlin by the company Berlin Heart GmbH.
In his fifties, Wolfgang Ahrendt developed ischemic cardiomyopathy. The weakness of his cardiac muscle meant that his heart no longer pumped enough blood through his body. A suitable donor heart could not be found in time and the patient's condition progressively deteriorated. On March 4, 2007, Mr. Ahrendt had the life-saving INCOR® System implanted at the German Heart Institute Berlin. Wolfgang remembers how good a feeling it was to wake up the next day and finally be able to breathe normally again. He himself has never given up and enjoys walks on sunny days: "I simply cannot get into the habit of walking slowly; I still always walk faster than everyone else."
The INCOR® System was developed for the long-term support of patients with serious left ventricular insufficiency. Its excellent performance is being proven in clinical practice. Many patients worldwide have been successfully supported with the INCOR® System for over six years.
About INCOR®
INCOR® is an implantable left ventricular assist device made by the company Berlin Heart GmbH. It has been developed to support the heart in cases of advanced heart failure. Due to its globally unique non-contact magnetic bearing, it is particularly suitable for the long-term therapy of heart failure. The INCOR® System is used to bridge the waiting time for a suitable donor heart, or it is used permanently in patients for whom a heart transplantation is not an option.
